The Mission of the Festival SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER
The festival provides a place where students, teachers and other involved in the theatre can meet to present and discuss their work and methods.
All departments of the Theatre Faculty of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts (DF JAMU) are involved in the organization of the festival.
Festival and Co-organizer ot the Festival
The festival is organized by DF JAMU.
Other subject can be involved in organization of the festival. The content and form of cooperation is governed by and regulated by the Cooperation Agreement or by other type of contract.
Festival Project
Each particular festival edition is based on the festival project.
Proposals of each edition arise during the seminars and are discussed and approved by the Festival Board.
The project regulates:
• Specific organizational, technical and financial conditions for each year of the festival.
• The way of participation of students of Theatre Management and Stage Technology Department (ADPaJT).
• The structure of the Festival Board (according to the conditions stated in these statutes).
The project should regulate the basic dramaturgic solution of each festival year. These requirements could be regulated by particular projects.
If the project is not drawn up prior to the end of the academic year, procedure shall be accroding to the last realizied edition of the festival.
Date and Place of the Festival
The festival takes place in Brno and lasts five days, usually in April. Details are set by the festival project.
The date of the festival is a part of the academic year at DF JAMU.
Authorities
The Executive Director
• The Executive Director s appointed by the dean of DF JAMU.
The Festival Board
• The Festival Board is the main managing authority of the festival.
• The Festival Board is formed by student and teachers of our academy. Both have the same number of votes.
• Of the Festival Board does not reach a consensus, it will resort to voting. If the votes are equal, the Executive Director will decide.
Student Coordinator
• The author of the festival project is usually the Student Coordinator.
• The Coordinator for the proposal of the organizational team is named by the head of ADPaJT.
Fundraising
The preparation and organization of the festival is a part of the study curriculum or individual creative activity at the DF JAMU.
It is possible to raise an additional funds for the festival. The proposal for the budget is part of the festival project. The Festival Board decides the major issues regarding the management of the fundus.
Participants of the Festival
Participants of the festival are mainly companies formed of students of theatre academies or other higher education institutions. Accommodation costs are covered by the festival.
Festival guests
• The festival guests are approved by the Festival Board.
• The accommodation costs are usually covered for festival guests and they are allowed to attend given number of festival performances for free.
• Other participants (journalist, students, …).

The Festival Jury
The Festival Jury is approved by the Festival Board.
The accommodation costs are usually covered for the Festival Jury and they are allowed to attend all festival performances for free. Further details are specified in the document: The Statutes of the Festival Jury.
Awards and Jury
Extraordinary individual student achievements could be recognised during the festival.

Members of The Jury
The Jury is an indivisible part of non-competitive festival SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER. The main function of the Jury is awarding extraordinary acts of young theatre creators. The Jury consists of The Professional Part of The Jury.
The Jury consists of foreign and domestic experts in the performing arts or theatre education.
The suggestions for The Jury are made by The Core Organising Team and presented to the Festival Board. The Festival Board selects from the candidates on the basis of special qualities, studied field and profession focus, ethnic and gender diversity and balance.
The ratio of members is set to four representatives.
One representative of The Jury is a representative of a Czech institution.
The Jury will be appointed by the Dean of the Theatre Faculty of Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno on the basis of the proposal of The Festival Board.
Members of The Jury cannot be Individuals in labour-law relationship with at least one of the schools taking part in the main festival program taking part in the Main festival programme.
Members of The Jury have free admission to the Festival performances and OFF programme.
The Jury is obliged to see all the performances of the main Festival programme. They have to participate in the Opening and Closing Ceremony as well.
The Jury is obliged to decide about the awards on the base of the expert discussion and to inform The Festival Director about the nominees at the final meeting on the last festival day.
The Jury can present up to four MARTA Awards.

The Chairman of the Jury
The Chairman of the Jury is appointed by The Festival Board. If the Jury does not reach a consensus, then voting takes place. If the decision results in a draw, then the Chairman’s vote will be the decisive vote.
Within the non-competitive festival SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2022, the individual artistic achievement of a student may be recognised with one of these following awards: The MARTA award and The Award of The Festival Director.
MARTA Awards are awarded within the authority and responsibility of The Festival Jury.
The Jury consists of foreign and domestic professionals with a theatre or education background. Individuals in a labour-law relationship with at least one of the schools taking part in the main festival program cannot be members of The Jury. The Jury will watch all the shows of the Main program and after discussion behind closed doors, decides on the awards. The Jury will announce its decisions to the Festival Director. The final decision about awards is reserved for the Festival Jury.
MARTA Award
The MARTA Award is the award of the non-competitive International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER. This award is not for ranking individual performances within the main festival program, but for highlighting inspiring and breakthrough contributions from young thespians.
The MARTA Award is an expression of appreciation of extraordinary contributions from students involved in performances on the main program. Instructors or theatre professionals cannot obtain these awards. The organising team will prepare relevant information for The Jury. The team will provide The Jury with detailed information concerning the role of a particular student in a production team on request.
These awards are tied to the individual artistic achievements of particular students. Awards cannot be given to a group of students.
The Jury can make up to four awards in the following categories:
• Direction
• Scenography
• Outstanding Actress
• Outstanding Actor
• Dramaturgy
• Scenic music
• Screenwriting
• Light Design
• Choreography
• Costumes
In extraordinary cases, multiple prizes can be given within one category.
The Award of the Festival Director
The Director of the Festival has the right to award a The Award of the Festival Director at his discretion. The director’s opinion is independent, can differ from the opinion of the Jury, and is not tied to the above-mentioned individual categories. The festival director is not obliged to award this prize.
