About the school
The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU) is a modern, university-level art school. It is home to artistic personalities with a broad cultural perspective and an intense desire to pursue the opportunity to integrate theatrical knowledge and skill with artistic experiment. DAMU is a highly selective school, providing professional education in all branches of theatre: acting, directing, dramaturgy, scenography, theory and criticism, theatre management, authorial creativity, and drama in education. Here students study regular and alternative theatre, performance studies and puppetry. The most prominent personalities in Czech theatrical life teach here, and a number of distinguished foreign experts work as guest professors (such as Charles Marowicz and Oleg Tabakov). Degrees offered include bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level studies. The school has strong connections abroad and actively encourages placements at various European universities.
House of God
The Lord of the house has not appeared for several years. Does he still live here? Don’t ask questions and keep maintaining the house in order until he returns. But for how long? We have locked God between four walls in the hope that whenever we stop by his house, he will be at home. We have built him palaces with tall columns and arches, but today we feel sick at that height. What can be done with cathedrals at a time when these shrines have become meditation spaces, minimalist workspaces, and cozy cafes? And who will stay in our churches in the end?
We bring you a proclamation of what will happen when the door closes behind the last visitor.
