About the school
The ADK prepares students for careers in theatre and film and aims to provide students with a practical and project-based training in Acting (Bachelor’s degree), Directing (Bachelor’s degree), and Dramaturgy (Master’s degree) as well as in Stage and Costume Design at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. Interdisciplinarity is a core feature of the academic concept of the ADK. Our proximity to the Filmakademie allows us to react to an art that is exposed to constant changes. In addition to providing a foundational training for theatre, the ADK offers integrated projects that explore new forms beyond established fields and genres by using new media. To build a bridge between studies and careers, and to get access to a wide range of different institutions and personalities in the field of theatrical and artistic practice, the ADK enjoys a fruitful cooperation with a number of theatres and art institutions.
»antigone. a requiem«
«are we with each other or do we just tolerate each other?«
Dead bodies are washed ashore on the coast outside the walls of Thebes. They are dead for which King Creon does not see himself responsible. Rather, he sees them as a threat to the political stability of the well-protected fortress Europe. Suddenly the corpses lie in the city, carried there by Antigone, Creon’s niece and the fiancée of his son. Under the scrutiny of the Chorus of the Theban population, a family dispute of social significance is ignited. The central question of political responsibility is raised against the background of one’s own history in an affluent society. The focus of the staging is the conflict between Antigone and Creon, which is intensified by the multiple casting of the two characters. In this multiplied negotiation between the two sides, the field of tension opens up how much of Antigone and how much of Creon we find in ourselves. And how would we act in their positions? Individuals step out of the Chorus one by one, try their hand at the roles of system critic or head of state, and are forced to grapple with those perspectives. For them as well as us, the question arises: who actually is responsible for the dead and what would it mean to accept that responsibility?
