It is home to artistic personalities with a broad cultural perspective and an intense desire to pursue the opportunity to integrate theatrical knowledge and skill with artistic experiment. DAMU is a highly selective school, providing professional education in all branches of theatre: acting, directing, dramaturgy, scenography, theory and criticism, theatre management, authorial creativity and drama in education in the fields of regular and alternative theatre, performance studies and puppetry. The most prominent personalities of Czech theatrical life teach here and a number of distinguished foreign experts work as guest professors (including Charles Marowicz or Oleg Tabakov). Courses include bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level studies. The school has strong connections abroad and actively encourages placements at various European universities. Studying at DAMU is a challenge for talented, creative, and determined individuals. DAMU alumni obtain prestigious positions at the foremost theatres in Czech Republic. They also go on to establish and act in independent companies, work as free-lance theatre artists, theatre reviewers, producers, teachers and/or authors in the broadest sense.

The Brothers Karamazov
“Each of us wishes his father’s death! And I’m a pretty criminal, too. ”
The sons of Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov grew up without a father and feel nothing but fear and resistance to the father’s house. Yet everyone returned to him so that each of them could set out on their own destiny. The only thing that prevents it is an old jester and a lunar, rotten Karamazov.
What happens when young people submit to Dostoevsky’s human analysis? How do they clash with the brutality of a world without rules, without authority and without a father, with a world in which everything is allowed…?
This year’s final year students of the Department of Dramatic Theatre at DAMU decided to establish their own theatre company Cinohra 16-20. They perform not only in DISK theatre but also in Kolowrat Theatre. Their strengths lie in classical traditional theatre and plays, among them we can find Orestes, Cherry Orchard, Brawling of Chioggia (all of these in DISK theatre), Twelfth Night or White Nights.
