Dear friends, dear dramaturges,

thirty years ago, the November Revolution fulfilled its mission, brought freedom, opened the borders and we became a part of Europe – a part of the world.

Freedom and democracy also brought 30 years of a free festival ENCOUNTER.

A beautiful anniversary – a precious anniversary.

Thirty years, during which theatre itself underwent substantial changes, but is still surviving mostly due to its fundamental principles and fundamental ideas on why it was established and why surely will not “perish”. A living human in front of living humans, a living human with a living human on the stage, the mutual contact, authenticity, unrepeatable moments.

By means of an encounter of dramaturges and theatre artists from different countries, encounters with the audiences, of getting to know each other and of mutual confrontation, we can relish the idea that art, as a craving for freedom, has come true, that theatre arts cause that we, humans, have a chance to lead a wiser, nicer, happier and more noble life. Long live encounters, long live the city of Brno and its festival, for at least another 30 years.

Let us protect and guard our freedom.
