Professional Jury

Although the festival is non-competitive, the best and most inspiring student artistic performances are awarded Marta Award by a jury consisting of Czech and foreign theatre professionals every year. The Jury offers its point of view and assessment of the particular student artistic achievement.The Jury can award four separate awards in any of the following categories: Director, Stage Designer, Female Performance, Male Performance, Dramaturgy, Music and Sound Design, Screenplay, etc.

Kristina Žantovská

Kristina Žantovská

Kristina Žantovská is a dramaturgist, journalist and translator. She graduated from the Theatre Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Department of Dramaturgy. As a dramaturgist she worked in several leading theatres: Vinohrady Theatre, Pod Palmovkou Theatre and Theatre Na Zábradlí. Kristina Žantovská is also the winner of two Alfréd Radok Awards (1995, 1996) for best original play. Since 2000 she has worked for Czech Radio. Her theatrical adaptation of the British sitcom Yes Minister was performed in the Vinohrady Theatre for 7 seasons and enjoyed 240 performances.

Christine Richier

Christine Richier is an expert in the field of lighting design. She also engages in academic teaching and research in the field of art history. In the field of lighting design, she worked with dancer and choreographer Blanca Li, the musical group Les Percussions de Strasbourg, and director Zaza Disdier. She currently teaches lighting design at ENSATT (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Techniques du Theâtre). Christine Richier also delt with the Czech stage designer Josef Svoboda in her research work.

Frédéric Poty

Frédéric Poty is a French director specialized in travelling theatre. As the youngest student ever, he entered the theatre Comédie de Saint-Étienne at the age of fourteen, attending professional workshops. In 1985, he opened the small theatre Le Cocotier in Saint-Étienne and in 1994, Frédéric Poty became the artistic director of the Compagnie l'Equipage. In 2005, the city of Villeneuve decided to entrust the artistic direction of the festival Villeneuve en Scène to Frédéric Poty, and he led the theatre festival until summer 2013. The festival offered quality theatre to a wider audience and the best conditions for the theatre groups. Frédéric Poty is now the artistic advisor of the new festival of the Fos Sur Mer city, near Marseille, as well as of Les Zygomatiques, a festival dedicated to comedies, street theatre and all artistic forms related to humour.

Jussi Kareinen

Jussi Kareinen is a theatre journalist and senior lecturer in the Degree Program of Cultural Management at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (Seinäjoen Ammattikorkeakoulu). He is a member of the Finnish Association of Critics. He has an MA from the Tampere University Departement of Fine Arts and his main subject was theatre reseach.

Paul Bourne

Theatre Director and Artistic Director of Menagerie Theatre, Cambridge, UK. Over the past 25 years Paul has directed and produced over eighty professional productions in ten different countries. He has also been the Artistic Director of The Hotbed Festival of New Writing in Cambridge since 2002. His work has ranged from small-scale productions to major national and international work. High-lights include Guignol (Tennessee Williams) in New York, the world touring production of the Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged (out of Washington D.C.), and the European premieres of Oleanna and The Secret Garden. Paul was previously Artistic Director at the Frankfurt Playhouse Germany and Center Stage, New York. His current focus is on commissioning and developing new work for the stage, creating productions that entertain, challenge and inspire. Based at the Junction Theatre in Cambridge, Paul also teaches at The University of Cambridge and the Russian Theatre Leaders School, Meyerhold Theatre, Moscow.
