The performance "Creation" is a self-penned work, the product of knowledge acquired by this specific group of innovators about the creation of the world and how they came to their own view. The performance tries to peep into the plurality of human myth and show that somewhere in their essence all are alike. Can there truly be only one correct answer to the question: why are we here? "We took as our starting point a smorgasbord of some 50 of the world's creation myths," says dramaturgist Kristýna Filcíková. "We began to rehearse in a workshop style, led by Marianna Stránská, Šimon Spišák and myself. We played with each single story, we rolled it around and examined it from a variety of angles. We were trying to explore the cultural backgrounds of the nations telling these stories. We looked into some of their nation dancing and rituals. It was a very special way of rehearsing. A unique one, I think, especially for our school. Ondrej put together the final form of the performance from the material which we had gathered."

The play, “Sunset”, is set in the early 20th Century in Moldavanka, a ghetto of Odessa, where old Mendel Krzyk falls in love with a young girl to the annoyance of his sons and heirs.
Translator Jerzy Pomianowski asserts that Sunset “seems to be the work of a true genius” and “belongs undoubtedly to the masterpieces of stage literature”. What is most striking about the action, conflicts and characters is their clarity. There`s no track of atmosphere of ‘family-drama’ genre. It surpasses all the works of this kind I know”.
“Sunset” is a splendid parade of characters, expanding a cornucopia of dichotomy – old and young, bounders and saints, peddlers, people of business and dregs of the underworld.

Human life is trapped around a tree – or other way around ? Three lonely people. For one of them the tree has a function as a material and as a source of income. The other one sees the tree as an enigma. For the third one the tree is a decorative object. And these three people are trying to find a solution to their loneliness. Perhaps a tree could provide an answer. PUU is a tricky exploration in a spirit of joy and gloominess. A play with metamorphosis and varying perspective. PUU has a target: spectator's imagination. The aim is to awaken it and sensitize it. The magic of the performance is based on the distinctive scenes: the ones you can sense with your ears and eyes. Aesthetically PUU is minimalistic. There are influences from object theatre. Music plays a significant part, though of the story telling. NO LANGUAGE BARRIER!

According to the understanding of politicians, terrorists are always the "others". From the point of view of Euripides, in his drama ORESTES, the terrorists are the Establishment: Orestes, crown prince of Mykenai; Pylades, his battle companion; Elektra, his sister, princess of Mykenai. Euripides, as well as his colleagues Aischylos and Sophokles, based their work upon the old myths. Orestes: the matricide through divine command. Euripides invents, as opposed to Aischylos and Sophokles, with the population of the myths’ own stories. He confronts the Royals Orestes and Elektra with their citizens: they are put on trial. Tyndareos her grandfather, serves the court as an agitator. Menelaos, her uncle, already sees himself on the Mykenian throne. Orestes and Elektra fight for survival, by any means necessary.

Length of performance: 90 min

The first night on festival SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2010 !
Was ever king thus overruled as I?‘ Edward II asks this question faced to his destiny. ‘Probably no‘ is the answer.
Weak Edward is a modern performance about the old tragedy of Edward II, king of England at the beginning of the 14th century. This is the story of a king with strange habits, who loved his dearest friend Gaveston more than his queen or his country, and who had to pay the social cost of his affaire.
For this version, Marlowe’s classical play has been adapted with a flash-back aesthetic which works with the trip of the main characters (Edward II, Gaveston, Queen Isabella and Mortimer) through their fate –wheel of fortune- and explores the power and social struggles in the play.
In this version the lords are ladies in lovely dresses who are so ashamed because of this weak king that they are willing to do whatever they (or their husbands) can to restore order in the kingdom. It is not a soft version. Just like the original play, it works with violence and uses cruelty as an element. Although it is explicit and direct, it contains subtle criticisms and uses irony as one of its main tools.

She has decided that the women must convince the men to give them control of Athens, because they could rule it better than they have been. The women, in the guise of men, sneak into the assembly and pass the measure, convincing some of the men to vote for it because it is the only thing they have not tried. The women then institute a Socialist-like government in which the state feeds, houses, and generally takes care of every Athenian. They enforce an idea of equality by allowing every man to sleep with every woman, but that the man must sleep with an ugly woman before he may sleep with a beautiful one.

Theatre – Laboratory „Alma Alter“

The theatre of the University of Sofia - the national Bulgarian university - was initially founded in 1968. Due to ideology considerations it was later shut down. After more than 30 years, in 2000 it was re-established as the “Alma Alter” Theatre-laboratory by its founder - the director Nikolay Georgiev, who has always been in the avant-garde of the Bulgarian experimental theatre.
"Alma Alter" penetrates into and researches the primary, essential theatre means of expression in the context of the present day. “Alma Alter” is syncretic, creative, strongly unconventional, open, daring and is also known as “The alive theatre”. The philosophy and the methodology of “Alma Alter” is based on the aesthetics, theory and practice of the Bulgarian theatre reformer Geo Milev and probably is closest to Grotowski’s “Poor theatre” principles. The art of “Alma Alter” is highly interactive - the audience is an active participant in all the performances. Each performance of "Alma Alter" should be different from the previous ones, because it is set on the principle of "happening here, now, with these people". “Alma Alter” has won recognition as a unique place in the cultural life of the country, where theatre is not “produced”, but born, where "Things happen" – a categorical alternative to the (conventional) theatre in Bulgaria.

The human being is the only one who can settle and solve his human problems. In contrast to the plants and animals, man has the chance to be what he has decided to be. His existence is what he himself makes it. He is given the possibility to exceed his own limits. He performs a leap – to the divine, to the cosmos – the one outside his own internalisation - to the world, to himself, to freedom. Thus he himself grows, unfolding the orb of his possibilities. There’s no human being without a world, there’s no me without others.

The Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy in Warsaw

The oldest "theatrical academy" in Warsaw, designed to educate professional actors, was opened in 1811 by Wojciech Bogusławski. It was characterized by an extremely modern conception and an extensive curriculum in those days. A direct predecessor of the capital Academy of Drama was the State Institute of Theatrical Arts (PIST). The foundation of PIST created a new quality in the history of the evolution of Polish drama education. In 1962 this school (renamed PWST) received academic status. The half a century of history of the Academy has been an ongoing aspiration for improving the means of education and a constant searching for the most suitable methods of training in dialogue, addressing with reality the challenge not only in the field of art but also in the sphere of transmission techniques of new media. The Academy is also part of scientific life in Poland, undertaking research work and organizing scientific symposia concerning the history of theatrical education.
