Date

Encounter takes place in the beginning of April and lasts 5 days. In 2002 we will celebrate the 12th anniversary of the festival which will be held from 9th to 13th April.

History

Since 1991 the festival Encounter has gained its recognition and prestige. We had the honour to welcome performances from various theatre schools from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Croatia, Russia, Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia Hungary, USA, Greece, Estonia, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Finland, South Africa and Lithuania.

Conditions

The performances of all participating schools take place in three venues, all of them with the standard theatre technical equipment: theatre studio MARTA of the Faculty of Theatre, JAMU, Goose on the String Theatre - Centre of Experimental Theatre and Theatre of Bolek Polivka. Apart from the main programme we organise discussions on the theme of the festival. Since 1999 the theme is : “What will acting be like in the 21st century?".

Each participating school can introduce:

  • one production that will reflect the topic of the festival and will contribute to the discussion or
  • one production in a progress of rehearsing with a comment (point of the rehearsal, application of methods, problems of staging etc.)

The Board of the festival reserves to make a choice in case the number of applicants will overreach number of 13 schools. For the purpose of entrance competition we would appreciate to have programme, photos and video of the production.

The most remarkable artistic student achievements are awarded the “MARTA" award.

Organisation

  • Each of the invited schools can come with a performance counting maximum 13 students and 2 accompanying people. The organiser provides accommodation and free entrance to chosen festival performances according to possibilities of the capacity of the auditoriums. The organiser contributes to catering.
  • The participants pay for their own transportation to the festival. We recommend them to ask funds or foundations for a travel grant.
  • Upon registration, every participant will receive an information package and each group will have a personal Czech guide who will assist them with any requests.
  • People who are interested in taking part in festival can come without hesitation and be here as observers. Unfortunately we are not able to pay for their travel expenses and accommodation. This must be paid from their own sources. However we can make a reservation in hostels or hotels for them.
